The Early Years And Beyond
I want to begin by thanking Teresa Bestwick for the bottom of my heart for all the work you have put into Shining Light Ministries. My daily prayers include thanking God for the vision He put in your mind and the burden He placed on your heart to help desperate, young women such as myself.
Having attended 10+ rehabs, I jokingly refer to myself as an unaccredited rehab expert. My tour of treatment facilities has spanned three states, and has included 28-days programs, detox center, intensive out-patient programs and even an 18-month stint in a purely faith based program.

The Road To Recovery
There are two factors which have contributed to the honest surrender and success of my sobriety this time around, which lead me to the purpose of this letter.
The first factor simply pertains to the depth of the bottom that I hit. With homelessness, arrest record and prostitution, I finally reached a point where I was “done”.
And herein lies the importance of the second factor, which is not only Shining Light Ministries, but the belief/principle that this program was founded on: the absolute necessity of the message of Jesus Christ and the program of Alcoholics Anonymous.
The Difference At Shining Light
In closing, I would like to refer to Matthews 12:43-45. To paraphrase THIS Scripture, it talks about an evil spirit leaving a person and wandering. When the evil spirit returns, he finds the house (the person) swept and in order, so he goes and gets seven of his evil spirit friends and returns, “and so that person is worse off than before”.
What Shining Light did for me, with the program of Alcoholics Anonymous, was clean my house. And then Shining Light stepped in, with the message of Jesus Christ, and filled my house!
