‘Twas the Night Before Christmas…

By Amanda Lee

‘Twas the night before Christmas, when all through Shining Light,
Not a creature was stirring, on this cold December’s night;
The stockings were hung by Amanda with care,
In hopes that our families soon would be there;
The residents were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of new beginnings danced in their heads;
With Moses on the couch, and Ms. Diana at her desk,
She was ready for prayer and a lazy night’s rest;
And Ms. Joy in her ‘kerchief, and Mrs. Jewel in her cap,
Had just settled down for a long winter’s nap;
When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,
We sprang from our beds to see what was the matter;
Away to the window we flew like a flash,
Randi opened the shutters and threw up the sash;
Donna jumped up with joy, Valerie played in the snow,
Lindsey peeked through the curtains with Roxanne just below;
When what to our wondering eyes should appear,
But a Ford F150, bringing holiday cheer;
With a tough little driver, so lively and quick,
We knew in a moment it must be Teresa Bestwick;
More rapid than eagles, from AA she came,
And she whistled, and shouted, and called us by name;
Now Ms. Joy! Now Michelle! Now Amanda! Now Valerie!
On Randi! On Donna! On Roxanne! On Lindsey!
To the top of the porch! To the top of the wall!
Now LOVE away! HOPE away! GIVE away all!
And then, in a twinkling, we found in our hearts,
The chance for true freedom, each one a new start;
As we pondered our lives and all turning around,
We pictured a manger, the night without sound;
He was dressed in white swaddling, from His head to His foot,
And the clothes, they were tarnished with ashes and soot;
In a bundle of hay as He lay on his back,
He glowed of perfection, with nothing to lack;
His soft little mouth was drawn up like a bow,
As a man, He would wash us all white as the snow;
The cross of a dogwood He carried, clenching His teeth,
And the thorns, they encircled His head like a wreath;
He was born on this eve to, one day, save us all,
Without Him, we’re certain, we would all surely fall;
We gazed as we saw Him, in his wonder and glory,
For we knew that this truly, was the ultimate story;
A babe born in a stable, on that still starry night,
To rescue us all, against evil, win the fight;
He spoke a few words, and went straight to his work,
And filled all our souls, then He turned with a smirk;
And laying His finger aside of His nose,
Then giving a nod, up to heaven He rose;
He sprang to his throne, to His Father gave a whistle,
And away He flew, like the down of a thistle;
But we heard Him exclaim, ere He rose behind the moon,
So we all felt at peace, creeping back to our beds,
As the story of Jesus turned in our heads;
Michelle whispered down the hall as she turned off the light,

God Bless and have a Merry Christmas!!
